However in 2021 I got Guillain Barre Syndrome following a bout of food poisoning which left me with very little feeling in my body as my central nervous system had been attacked. After 6 weeks in hospital I had a long journey ahead of me which initially meant learning to walk unaided and building up my strength and balance. This took a number of months and although I still only had limited feeling in my legs I needed another challenge.
I had already met Georgia through online boot camps during lockdown prior to my illness and her classes seemed like the ideal next stage. Her general enthusiasm plus her understanding of my early limitations helped me gradually build up my strength, fitness and confidence with each class. Also the fact that the other members of the group were clearly enjoying themselves made it a fun experience.
Although I’m still not fully recovered I am now able to do more classes and participate fully. The variety of exercise the classes give me plus the boost of getting out there with likeminded people is so important to my progress as well as my mental health I would recommend giving it a go and getting fit while having fun.
